Alston Arches & bridges over the South Tyne
Tony Storey
This book was published to mark the completion of the restoration of the Alston Arches railway viaduct. The viaduct carried the Alston branch of the Newcastle & Carlisle Railway over the river South Tyne, at Haltwhistle.
The restoration was completed by the North Pennines Heritage Trust in 2005-6 with funding from the Heritage Lottery fund, the Railway Heritage Trust, and Tynedale District Council.
The book includes historical notes on other bridges over the South Tyne.
