16th February:-
Spring Into Action In support of National Nest Box week, Nenthead Mines will be open for a pre-season day to look at how we can get ready for the spring explosion of wildlife. Including bird box building and other family fun activities. Open 10:30am-5pm, normal entrance fees apply.

8th-9th March:-
Finding Families A weekend of talks at Nenthead Mines, exploring the heritage & genealogy associated with Nenthead and the legacy of the London Lead Co. Guest speakers include Cumbria Archive Service and local authors. Each day will run from 10am-4pm and cost, including buffet lunch, £15 per day or £25 for both days. 19th-20th April:-
Sketching & Painting the Mining Moors Be inspired by the powerful yet bleak North Pennines landscape. Be awed by the alien environment created by hundreds of years of industrial mining. Using renowned local artist, Lionel Playford, this course will provide techniques for capturing both the look and feel of the area through drawing and painting, including outdoor sketching and studio painting. 24th May:-
Exposing Underground A Northern Rocks Event. Using expert advice from Mike Hrybyk, a local mine explorer and photographer, discover how to interpret mine workings and geology through photography underground. 30th May:-
Rock Safari A Northern Rocks Event. Be guided onto a dry riverbed where you can search for rocks and minerals left behind by Victorian miners. Staff will be on hand to help with identification and information. A FREE excellent introduction to geology for all the family. Activity starts 11am and 2pm, lasting approx 1 hr. Normal opening times and entrance fees apply.

21st June:-
The Power of Water Understand how water can be used to power machinery. Compare the old with the new. Take part in a range of fun activities at no additional cost. Normal opening times and entrance fees apply.

26th July:-
Dry Stone Walling Interested in voluntary work or just have a garden wall in need of repair? Join us for an introductory course, helping beginners to repair dry stone walling. For further details, including how to book, please download the following form: awaiting details.

'Rock On' A number of family activities including 'cave painting' in the mine and other FREE crafts. Special 'cave painting' mine tour at 11am and 2pm, normal opening times and entrance fees apply.

6th August:-
Learn How To Be An Archaeologist What must it be like to discover the past, uncover real artifacts and find out about life hundreds or even thousands of years ago? Step back in time and meet a miner in his lodgings, discover what his day was like. Interview a real archaeologist to find out about their job then have a go yourself, learning all the different tasks involved in an archaeological dig. At no additional cost, fun for all the family- normal opening times and entrance fees apply.

27th September:-
Fungi Foodies Go on a fungal foray with a local mycologist. Learn to identify different species and find out which are safe to eat. Collect species as you go then return to the cafe for a cookery demonstration by a local chef. Enjoy the tasty delectables provided and go home brimming with ideas.

1st-2nd November:-
Spooky Mine Tours Dare you enter the spooky chamber at Nenthead Mines? A halloween event for all the family. Take a trip underground into our 300 year old mine and go on the hunt for ghosts and ghouls, finishing in the spooky chamber for blood chilling stories.
