Statement of Risk Assessment
Teachers and supervisors of educational parties are ultimately responsible for the actions of their students and should undertake their own risk assessment prior to a visit, in accordance with Department for Education and Skills guidelines. (Free visits and risk assessment guidelines are available when a booking is made if required).
All the Nenthead Mines Heritage Centre and Dilston Castle and Chapel site specific risk assessments, and other Health & Safety documentation, is available on request. Due to the size and complex nature of the Heritage Centre, separate risk assessments have been undertaken for each area, including, specifically, Carrs Mine.
Appropriate measures have been taken to minimise potential risks and HM Inspectorate, Local Environmental Health Officers, Cumbria Fire Service and other relevant professional bodies provide advice and guidance on a regular basis.
