1 and 2:

  • Fantasies and Fairytales - Dilston Castle
    Enjoy an interactive day of enchantment and storytelling in the beautiful surroundings of Dilston Castle and Chapel.]
  • Glow in the Dark - Nenthead
    Observe and experience light and darkness inside a Victorian Lead Mine. Find out what life was like before electricity and take part in a creative ‘Glow in the Dark’ workshop.
  • Victorian Life - Nenthead or Outreach
    Come face to face with a Victorian Lead Miner from the North Pennines.             Examine his clothes, his tools and learn about his way of life.
  • Beastie Safari - Nenthead or Outreach  
    Enjoy fieldwork in the beautiful surroundings of Nenthead or in the grounds of your own school. Use magni-jars and identification keys to learn about animals and their habitats.
  • Alternative Technology - Nenthead or Outreach
    Understand why energy and power is so important in modern day life. Find out what life would be like without it and the alternative energies available. Finish the day with a waterwheel building competition.
  • Classroom Dig - Outreach
    This is a chance to practice being a real archaeologist in your own school, digging through various historical layers to discover, label and record artefacts that you find.
  • Pennine Village - Outreach
    This is a programme of activities developed to support the investigation of local history relating to silver and lead mining on Alston Moor, Cumbria and, in particular, the community of the village of Nenthead, providing the opportunity to make a comparative study of the village of Nenthead – how it   grew and changed over the years.
  • Fossil Hunter - Outreach
    Dig for fossils like a real palaeontologist and enjoy a range of fun activities that support this topic.
  • Rock Safari - Nenthead
    Search for examples of different minerals, crystals and metal ores washed down from our 18th century spoil heaps. Use sorting and branching database techniques to identify finds.
  • The Power of Water - Nenthead
    Visit Nenthead Mines and learn what life was like for the miners and their families. Learn about the Power of Water with our large interactive display and pan for minerals taking home your finds.
